Sansa x Elia
1, 14, 8, 16
1. For the most part they like each other’s families. Oberyn took a bit for Sansa to get used to though.
14. Sansa sings a lot. There are a bunch of songs that she has sung that makes elia instantly think of her when she hears them out and about.
8. Elia loves Sansa’s hair and grabbing onto it. Sansa loves Elia’s abs.
16. Elia gives distance, Sansa smothers.

I realize that anti Got Season 8 posting in late 2024 is a bit boomerish, but screw that it's my blog and there's no law stating that I can't post about That Series again.
I've stumbled across an old anti-Daenerys post written by a Sansa fan some months after the show ended and...oh my God. I had nearly forgotten just how batshit crazy those takes are.
Dany is a colonialist. Dany is a white supremacist. If you like her you are both. Martin is just pretending to write her as a hero, in the end he will reveal she was evil all along and freeing slaves was a secret code for enslaving people. Valyria is evil and the Targaryens are evil. Westeros is simultaneously the ancient Americas and Medieval Europe. Essos is Europe but also the Oppressed Middle East.
Sansa is the true anti colonialist hero. Sansa is the true opprossed woman. If you don't support her you are an oppressor and possibly a rapist yourself. The North is good and the Starks are good. When Arya sails West of Westeros sporting the North's banner, she is not partaking in colonialism, in fact, she will be the anti Christopher Columbus. How do we know that? Because she's a Stark, the Starks are good...
It's maddening. No wonder Daenerys fans are driven into a frenzy. It's not irrationality, it's just natural frustration at constantly being held to double standards and fighting some crazy takes.
Now, treating a fantasy tv show fandom as anti-colonial activism is bad enough, but it's clear to me that at least some of these takes are motivated by the fact they see Sansa as the underdog, mistreated by both the characters and sometimes even the narrative.
And here's where things get weird.
I've said many times that I didn't become a full Dany fan until she was heavily mistreated by the narrative, and I'm definitely not alone in this. Back in the day, many people who previously didn't care one bit for Daenerys suddenly ended up defending her or even stanning her.
Like, of course if somebody wants to root for the underdog, the first thing to do is rooting for the actual underdog. Season 8's underdog was Daenerys. Everyone and everything was deadly set against her from the moment she arrived in Winterfell. They constantly disrespected her, undercut her efforts, killed off or villainized her allies, snobbed her non-traditional upbringing, conspired behind her back. And all the while they always asked asked asked for more, nothing she was giving was enough.
In contrast, the Starks' and the North's actions were constantly justified or presented as good, even betrayal (which is a very huge deal in Westeros) or, in one instance, outright racism by the Northern people -this time fully intended by the production, rather than an unintentional outcome of some poor behind-the-scene choices.
At the end, Season 8's Starks were absolute gods who could do no wrong and were always in the right no matter what they did -except their bastard son, who was contaminated by the evil people's blood and has to symbolically kill that part of himself forever.
Well, guess what, people didn't like that. But the newfound Dany fans were perfectly consistent: they wanted the underdog to win, to overcome her hurdles, internal or external, and be happy at the end. If the underdog is Dany, well, then it's time for Dany to win.
It's Sansa stans that see everything in terms of How This Affects My Fave and are willing to bend over the narrative to get what they want. They are perfectly happy with a biased narrative and double standards, they just want it to be biased towards Sansa, and everything is fair game to them, including real life politics and vocabulary, with some hilarious results. For example: Sansa as the voice of the Oppressed Minorities is...a take, to say the least. Her world doesn't even have a prejudice against red hair, as it would have in real life.
And guess what else, this kind of Protagonist-Centered Morality is very similar to the one used by real life colonizers, especially in their "explorations". Not that it matters because this isn't a post-colonial story and it never will be. It's a story about a messed up Fantasy Medieval/Early Renassaince World with Dragons, heavily influenced by various periods of European history. The only vaguely post-colonial element are maybe the zombies-as-slaves metaphor, and I think it's more due to the fact that Martin was probably inspired by old horror Movies pre-dating the Romero ones. And who is liberating slaves in his story, again?
Anyway. 2019-2020 was a really weird time to be a Dany fan, and in hindsight it was crazy how much shit there was around a fantasy series with dragons. Surely five years later people are a little more normal, right? Right?

hi!! i'm new to jonsa (just became a fan about a month ago haha!) and i'm not sure who to ask but i found this blog so i sent this message. do you have an idea how big the jonsa fandom is? i feel like tumblr and ao3 are the only websites where jonsa fans can have a safe space (for a lack of a better term i guess). in other websites such as twitter and reddit, it's not only that most people prefer other ships that include jon and sansa (like jonerice for example), jonsa seems actually hated? preferring other ships is one thing but being hated is another. though i guess partly that's because a lot of people hate sansa.
i'm just kind of curious since the community here on tumblr is so good 😭 i'm looking at posts from years ago to recent times and i love the art, the fics, the metas, and everything else. the community seems pretty active still too even if the show ended years ago and we have no idea when/if twow will be released lmao.
anyway, i'm not sure if i can find jonsa enjoyers on twitter and reddit. i think i tried some time ago but i couldn't handle the hate so i didn't try to dig deeper into those places.
¡¡¡WELCOME TO THE FAMILY!!!
I think we are big, used to be bigger, especially during the last 3 seasons of the show.
Some haters even claim that there's a secret jonsa agenda and we have a lot of money and power to change things, like making Sansa Queen in the North or paying producers to make an erotic film with Sophie and Kit as the main couple 🤷‍♀️
Tumblr and AO3 are safe places indeed, Twitter is full of haters but there's some of us there as well.
There are a lot of haters on reddit too, but there are a few pro jonsas as well.
They hated jonsa because we predicted the exact ending of the show, with aunty being the big bad guy and dying at the hands of a Stark.
Also jonsa interferes with sadly popular ships like jonerice, jon x fave sister and the cult of cujo (the hound).
Yes, a lot of people hate Sansa and they don't consider Sansa as a main character, so for her to end with a main character like Jon is almost sacrilege.
Anyways, don't mind the haters and enjoy our ship!

What are your thoughts on Northern fashion? You mentioned in an early post that it would be different depending on the location, can you elaborate on that? I also feel like the style changed soon after Catelyn married Ned, since she would bring styles from the Riverlands and Winterfell is the King's Landing of the North when it comes to fashion
Let’s goooo 🏃🏻‍♀️
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Starting in the Neck, they would definitely be more like the riverlanders in terms of clothing. It’s a fairly similar wet and muggy climate. Everything is mostly made of wool and hemp and linen. Thinner clothes for the muggy summers and warmer, thicker ones for when winter comes. Leather/animal skin shoes to keep the mud off. Also whenever I imagine the Crannogmen I imagine cloaks and hoods to stay dry in the swamps. So lots of those.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
To the East and a bit father to the north, that costal area around White Harbor is colder than the Neck. So theres a lot more layers, and clothing it way thicker. Also the Manderlys are dripped tf out they got that White Harbor money. Wyman has fur lined EVERYTHING his damask coats could put Cerseis to shame. Wylla and Wynafred pull up to the Sept with lace and silk and jewels eating all the other bitches up. Also since they follow the Faith and are originally southern, this area probably follows more southern customs (fabrics, headpieces, etc)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And we finally make it to winterfell 🤸🏻‍♀️At this point everyone’s freezing their tits off, so fur lined everything. Indoors, I think they can wear lighter stuff bc of those hot springs. Even in the spring months, you can catch Cat wearing at least one shift, underdress, overdress, AND a jacket bc I feel like she never acclimated to the cold. Lots of leather and wool for everyday wear, but when Ned throws a feast or something they get to wear more fur and velvet (even Jon gets to wear a nice velvet surcoat, as a treat). Since the Starks are bordering on ascetic sometimes, there isn’t a ton of ornamentation, but Sansa likes to wear southern-ish styles as much as she can, so you can frequently find her wearing clothes from white harbor (aka I want to see Sansa in a kokoshnik)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And then even farther north we start to see Bolton and Umber territory. The conditions are even more brutal than at Winterfell and they don’t even have hot springs :/ like Sansa and Arya could probably get away with not having to cover their ears during warmer days, but the girls of last hearth and the dreadfort have no warm days. At this point clothing becomes a bit bulky and harder to move around in. Dresses are lined stiffly and almost drag the floor, and everyone is always bundled up to the neck. However materials and fabrics are cohesive and nice atp.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And by the time we nearly reach the wall, conditions are almost unbearable during the winter. Even during spring, all the villagers in the gift are wearing at least four layers (bc I hate hate hate how the show made the people at and around the wall just chill in a thin jacket when they were near a gargantuan frozen block of ice). Clothing is a lot less structured here, resources are getting sparse so most people stitch together a patchwork of whatever furs they can get their hands on. You will rarely see a person without a big hood or thick gloves on. And even though they aren’t wildlings, you can probably see a lot of animal head hoods, bc these people do NOT waste any part of the animal

Thoughts about the supposed direction Rhaena's storyline is going in Hotd and the apparent Nettles erasure? Disappointing but... I can sort of see where they could take it? Idk... looking at grrm's posts in hindsight kinda makes me even more disappointed if he is as well (he just can't get his adaptations right atp but idk)
Well. Pre-ep7, we're still pending any Rhaena-Sheepstealer bonding, but I'm basically 😑🫠 about the rumors. (I dislike borrowing trouble, I'm not even sure how many of the rumors are true -- actually I'm pretty sure many of these supposed "leaks" are straight up lies -- and yet. Still *disgruntled meh* and *"we're all fine-everyone's fine here" dread*.) Rhaena is one of my more beloved F&B characters (it's the Sansa parallels, I can't help myself), and Nettles has been a super fave since TPATQ and TWOIAF. (Particularly TWOIAF, since the Burned Men fire-witch reveal; heck, I think my little dollmaker is still one of the few fanarts of Nettles in the mountains.)
I mean, sure, I understand that Rhaena's book storyline during the Dance, where she's offpage from basically the start of the war until nearly the end of it, socializing in the Vale and waiting for her egg to hatch, would be difficult to adapt in an action-oriented visuals-oriented television show. (Like Rhaenyra this season sure isn't just catatonically crying from Luke's death until Jace's.) And I'm glad Rhaena's getting more to do, and I'm glad it's directly addressing her feeling slighted and ignored by her family since she doesn't have a dragon. However...
I do not want Rhaena merged into one character with Nettles! I do not want Rhaena to have Sheepstealer and not her hope-for-the-future (doomed hope, and yet) baby dragon Morning, that hatched for her. Also note how pink Morning, worn as a fashion accessory, so suited Rhaena's coquette personality vs her sporty, adventurous twin sister... I mean, I've said before, I understand adaptations can be different, this still wouldn't make HOTD even close to a "loose adaptation".* But I do not want this adaptation to lose Rhaena's personality that I loved.
Or for that matter, to lose Nettles's character, and her importance to the themes and worldbuilding of ASOIAF. (See also.) And her importance to the plot -- but god knows, they're doing all sorts of things with Daemon and Rhaenyra on this show, toxic romance or what have you, who knows if once Daemon reaches his emotional breakthrough or whatever at Harrenhal this season, if they want to backslide him into a cheating plot in S3 while Daemon is again stuck in a castle for months.** Nevertheless, I'd be deeply disappointed to lose scenes like "as well as her dragon, the girl had taken to riding Daemon", or the last morning in Maidenpool scene... and um, you can't really fit Rhaena in there, or if you did, it would certainly put the lie to the ship denialists' "he just treated her like a father, platonically bathing naked together!" (Also the pretty blatant fake S3 leaks including one where Rhaenyra decides Rhaena has betrayed her... are pretty blatantly fake, sorry.)
And then there would be the frankly racist erasure of the one book black character. "Oh but the show made the Velaryons black, so it's not erasing, it's adding more!" No, sorry. (1) I was and am all for adding more racial diversity to the show and especially to Valyrians, but face it, when you take the book's secondary character Velaryons, two who get killed off early and are portrayed as lesser to the "true" Daemon/Rhaenyra marriage, and make them black, you've already done a lot of hinky damage there. (2) What, it's that hard to write three distinct black girls with very different personalities and one from an incredibly different background? I don't see Addam and Alyn getting merged. I don't see Aemond and Daeron getting merged. I don't see Hugh and Ulf getting merged. But I'm not really one to speak here, for this particular discussion I'd point you to @ride-thedragon and @venusintheblindspots-blog and @chrkrose, among others, they have many many posts on this subject in far greater detail and better argued than mine.
OK, so. I still have hope that Nettles -- even if not cast for this season (sorry y'all, that extra is an extra) -- may appear next season, and all this worry will turn out to be a tempest in a teapot. Per last report from the HOTD panel at SDCC, the rumor of Rhaena and Sheepstealer definitely doesn't happen in ep 7, though, yes, there's one episode after. And if it does happen... I'll be strongly disappointed. Deeply, deeply disappointed, and probably far more suspicious of future adaptational changes. But, for me at least, it's not a dealbreaker like GOT S5 was.*** I won't be happy at all about the storyline, but I would like to think the show will remain high quality re themes and character and all. Time will tell, though. Time will definitely tell.
As for GRRM, when his complaints seem to be "wild dragons shouldn't be in the Vale" and "the heraldry with four legs is wrong", well, I struggle to see that he's that disappointed in the adaptational changes. Believe me, I am well used to reading between the lines re GRRM and adaptations, something like the fact that he's not visiting the HOTD writers' room when he's in the UK is nothing. Catch me if at Worldcon or his Oxford lecture in August, GRRM again says that he could write a whole novel about Nettles, or if actually says something about non-Valyrian dragonriders, ok?
*I was just reading up on The Beast (2023) vs Henry James's “The Beast in the Jungle”. lol HOTD doesn't compare. Don't even think it, man.
**You know, this reminds me of how the Dance in F&B is not paced very well for individual characters, they keep going offscreen for months at a time. From shortly after Rhaenyra's crowning to the Fall of KL, Daemon just sits at Harrenhal and occasionally ventures out into the riverlands. From shortly after the Fall of KL until the Battle Above the Gods Eye, Daemon just... sits at Maidenpool and occasionally ventures out into the riverlands (with Nettles). Yeah, obviously a show would need to write more for him to do, he's a main character.
***Thank god HOTD isn't the sort of exploitative shitshow that GOT was. All y'all thinking it was a better adaptation because of your nostalgia goggles (and/or shitty memory) need to actually reread the books (especially AFFC/ADWD) and then submit yourself to the real-world misogynist and homophobic nonsense of S5-6 again, ugh.

A few months ago i made a post about Sansa and Arya and how their relationship is pretty normal for siblings (specifically sister) and how the rivalry their stans have is fucking stupid. No matter how people wanna spin it Arya and Sansa are literally children, they didn't even go through puberty before being separated, people cry and whine "Sansa did this" "Arya did that" but it's not really something i take seriously or which i blame either of the girls for and people are still under the fighting about who's more evil.
People want to make Sansa to be this evil woman who pushed Arya under the bus and got someone killed when the blame lies solely with Joffrey and Cersei or people want to act like Arya is straight up unfeeling that should act like a lady and everything is her fault. Sansa was a bully to Arya and Arya wasn't exactly nice to Sansa either, that's the truth they were children put against each other by societal norms, if you want someone to blame, blame their parents.

Update: I'm no longer shadowbanned! Apparently tumblr's anti-spam control flagged my blog for some reason that escapes me... The queue is full of self-reblog posts so I might just leave it on 😅
since I'm still shadowbanned I might as well set up a queue and start self-reblogging old posts to keep the blog alive 🤷‍♀️

i live for ur modern aus i need more pls
Thank you! I'm currently in the process of writing a modern AU, but it's less comedic, and more of a dramatic romance. Jaime is a homicide detective and Brienne is a child welfare agent and she's pulled into the murder investigation of one of client's mothers.
I'm also making plans for a Western Gothic Braime fic, and a Blair Witch (kinda sorta, it'll be a ghost story but it'll take place in the Riverlands or the Whsipers can't decide) Braime fic.
But, for more modern AU headcanons, here you go:
-Jaime never obeys the speed limit, in the city or on the highway, and it stresses Brienne the HELL OUT.
-Tommen is one of those ipad kids who wears those big onesies around the house.
-Myrcella has a coquette/pink aesthetic blog that she keeps secret from the adults because a bunch of the photos are just women in pink thigh high stockings.
-Brienne loves historical romance but keeps it secret, she either reads on her phone or keeps the books hidden under her bed.
-Joffrey only wears stinky Minecraft hoodies and blackmails Myrcella by threatening to tell Cersei about her blog.
-Brienne is a big athleisure girly because she can always find peices that fit her and look good. When she starts openly dating Jaime, Cersei makes a bunch of passive aggressive posts on her Facebook and Twitter about how whorish and sloppy she thinks it is for women to wear leggings as pants.
-Jaime is constantly sending Brienne memes that are months old and she doesn't have the heart to tell him, so she's always like, "That's great sweetie :)"
-Jaime and Cersei were big on terms of endearment when they were dating, and called each other 'babe' alot. They've had several very tense and awkward moments where one of them accidently called the other 'babe' in front of Tywin.
-Jaime is still a big fan of terms of endearment when he starts dating Brienne, but calls her 'my love' instead. Brienne just calls him Jaime.
-Both Jaime and Brienne hate PDA but are very affectionate in private. If Brienne is sleeping on her stomach or back Jaime will lay on top of her like a slug until he feels like he has enough Brienne-time.
-Jaime and Brienne watch Dateline together.
-Tyrion is a huge pothead. He started using to help him with his chronic joint pain and eventually opens a head shop with Tysha, who is a ceramic artist and makes pipes that they sell in their shop. Margarey is a frequent flier in their store.
-Sansa plays tennis even though she likes track better. She thinks tennis skirts are prettier and tennis is a more refined sport.
-Jon has more friends than Robb, and often invites him to parties instead of the other way around. Robb loves parties while Jon hates them.
-Theon is hired as a waiter because he's really hot but quits because he didn't realize how much walking it takes and Ramsay the line cook always silently stares at him when he goes back into the kitchen.
-Sam and Jon become roommates after Sam gets kicked out and they host Smash bros tournaments in their apartment. They're very close friends and often get mistaken for a couple. Robb posts about how much he loves his LGBT family members on his Insta during pride month to try and be supportive and Jon thinks it's for Brynden Tully and likes it.

i reworked the noble hierarchy in westeros
i saw a tweet about this yesterday and couldn’t stop thinking about it. it said something along the lines of “i wish grrm had used more diversity in highborn titles bc everyone is just a lord.” while i think grrm said he did this on purpose to make it all less confusing, i had a hyperfixation on noble rankings a few months ago and started developing more nuance to this stuff once i fixated on asoiaf. because of the tweet i really Really wanted to share this but i do not have a public twitter account (thank god)
also i don’t like that the literal king of the continent is called “your grace” when that title usually refers to non-royal dukes / duchesses. yeah it used to be a monarch’s title but the term “majesty” is so much more dramatic and i Love that stuff !!! i used a combination of english and canon titles with a dash of russian influence
THIS IS JUST FOR FUN it’s completely self serving and i wanted to share it for anyone else who desires even more complication in this fuckin series Don’t Attack Me.
so yippee here is my personal opinion on how westerosi nobility should be addressed (under the cut bc long post). the heading is the reworked title and form of address, and below i have random notes and reasonings aka me infodumping
pm if you have any questions or want to contribute!!!!
King / Queen of Westeros - “His / Her Imperial Majesty”
i wanted this to be more commanding and imposing to really show how coveted and important the throne and its power is aka give more realistic purpose for people to want it so bad. i think grander titles can put that idea him to people’s heads (besides “it’s neat” or as daemon said “a big chair made of swords”)
the title king / queen is perfectly good but i think it should be reserved for only the sole person on the throne. in my made-up ending of asoiaf, dany is queen of the six kingdoms (the north seceded and is ruled by sansa like in the show, and they have a close political allyship) and abolishes male-favoring primogeniture.
she also does some other stuff but that doesn’t matter here
westeros is technically an empire but i don’t want to call the monarch the emperor or empress, so i used just the form of address. since it’s a lot of syllables, the full three-word title is only needed during introductions or the very first address of the monarch. afterwards, the person speaking to them can just call them “your majesty” or “majesty” or “my king / queen”
Spouse of the King / Queen:
Grand Duke / Duchess - “His / Her Imperial Highness”
again, i wanted the king / queen to be The Person In Charge (whether or not the actual person does the work they should lol) so their spouse is less powerful than them and therefore not called “majesty”
i wanted to change this title more drastically because of my made-up ending (where dany is queen) and how there would definitely be future female monarchs who marry men, and i think having the king consort be called King would be confusing to people who are used to having only male rulers. it’d mess with their little heads
a duke is a nobleman who rules over a duchy and a lot of them are royal. in a lot of european monarchies, the grand duke title holds a similar amount of weight as the grand prince or archduke (i think used only in austria, so i didn’t go with that one) and only less than the king / queen so i thought this was a good fit :)
THAT BEING SAID!!!!!! this is also a lot more syllables. i decided that culturally and historically, most people have shortened their reference to the king’s wife and call her the queen. in all formal situations she would be the grand duchess, but calling her the queen for ease of conversation isn’t treason
Widowed spouse of the King / Queen:
Grand Lord / Lady - “His / Her Imperial Highness”
this was a recent addition because i thought everyone calling alicent the queen in hotd was a little silly. she was the queen for some time and is now the mother of the current king (and queen) and i like that they call her “queen dowager” sometimes, but since she would have been called the grand duchess in this timeline, i adapted that into something that seems respected and important but matches the political power they hold (not very much)
like how the grand duchess is casually called the queen, a grand lord / lady is sometimes called the queen dowager or the queen mother (see next point)
there is an exception to this title: if the widowed spouse is regent while their child is underaged or unable to rule (ceresi after joffrey is crowned) then they are called the queen regent or the queen mother, but becomes grand lady after their child comes of age. another example of this would be aegon ii being crowned when he’s an adult, so alicent was never his regent, therefore she would only be queen dowager or mother
all of this also swaps to if there’s a male widow it’s all the same thing just made masculine bc i don’t know the nuance of gender identity in westeros
i don’t like this one as much but idk what else to call it lmao
Siblings of the King / Queen:
Grand Prince / Princess - “His / Her Imperial Highness”
similar reasoning to the grand duke / duchess. siblings of an active monarch are super important but are not the same as their spouse
concerning targcest: the more important title overrules the one they’re first entitled to. example: helaena is never a grand princess because her and aegon married before he was crowned. she goes right to grand duchess, whereas aemond and daeron (yeah.) are grand princes
importantly, this title stays the same if and when the sibling outlives the monarch. they keep it for their whole lives Unless they gain a more important one, whereas almost all other titles change as soon as the monarchs do
Children, Grandchildren, and Siblings-in-law of the King / Queen
Prince / Princess - “His / Her Imperial Highness”
sometimes simplicity is key. in my head, any augments to this title indicates a lowering in status (the addition of “grand” meaning that they aren’t in line for the throne anymore, and the addition of “lord / lady” lowering them to a further removed position. second one is coming up next)
Children-in-law and nephews / nieces of King / Queen:
Lord Prince / Lady Princess - “His / Her Highness”
these guys either aren’t blood related to the monarch or aren’t really in line for the throne. since non-royal nobility is still all variations of lord / lady to me, giving them this additional word kind of removes them from the main royal family
also taking away the full extent of the address by removing the “imperial.” they’re deserving of respect because of their relation, but are still more lowborn
the children-in-law of a monarch can keep their royal title(s) if they are widowed, but they lose them if they divorce
Great-grandchildren of King / Queen:
Great Lord / Lady - “His / Her Grace”
and so appears the title of “your grace”
i wish i didn’t have to come up with this one but people have kids so damn young in this world that the kids often have actual relationships with their great-grandparents. so here we go, a royal-friendly variation of the lord / lady title. they aren’t grand, but they are great
King / Queen of The North - “His / Her Majesty”
i like the idea of a free north. idk what the iron islands are doing and i haven’t thought about it enough to care yet
the north is not an empire, so they don’t get the addition of “imperial”
Spouse of the King / Queen of The North:
King / Queen - “His / Her Grace”
again, i just wanted to be loyal to grrm’s choice of address. and i don’t think the north would care as much as to who is who in terms of The Ruler, so sansa’s husband can be called the king
Widowed spouse of the King / Queen of The North:
Lord King / Lady Queen
they’re royal but they’re also not too politically powerful. same as the westerosi one. i just got hit with sleepiness so sorry if these notes fall off in terms of quality
they don’t have a form of address beyond “my lord / lady” bc the north is less formal
Siblings of the King / Queen of The North:
Prince / Princess
same as above in reference to the form of address!
i didn’t want to name it this for a while Only Because arya would not like being called princess. but it made sense for everyone else, so here we are
Children of the King / Queen of The North:
Prince / Princess - “His / Her Grace”
if there aren’t any kids of the king or queen, then the younger sibling that they name their heir is also called this. like when robb is king then bran is his heir bc he doesn’t have kids so he is called this when it’s just him and rickon in winterfell early in the series
Prince / Princess of Dorne - “His / Her Highness”
full respect to the dornish wanting to keep in their ways hell yeah
this also goes for the spouse of the ruler! the both of them are meant to rule in tandem because dorne is less exclusionary than the rest of westeros in this sense
Siblings of the Prince / Princess of Dorne:
Lord / Lady
dornish royal custom is more informal but i still wanted the family to be called something, so i mirrored the rest of the continent
Children of the Prince / Princess of Dorne:
Lordborn / Ladyborn - “His / Her Grace”
same as above!
Head of a Great House - Highlord / Highlady - “His / Her Grace”
this is basically a lord paramount. the primary house of a region (the old kings) is called a great house. i wanted to keep some of grrm’s titles so not much would reallyyyy have to change, but there’s basically no difference between a lord paramount and a vassal house and a lowborn one so here we are
the books refer to these people as “high lords” so that’s mostly where this came from. i also really like combining words that make sense to be combined! that’s why some of these new titles are Just altered versions of lord or lady
i want the highlords to be distinctly different from lower houses, so they have a simple form of address
Spouse and Siblings of the Head of a Great House:
Lord / Lady
yes both of these guys have the same title because they probably carry similar power and influence with the highlord
Children of the Head of a Great House:
Lordborn / Ladyborn
this is also inspired by the term “lordling” that’s used in the canon. once one of the children becomes a highlord, their siblings all take the lord or lady title
Head of a normal House - Lord / Lady
boring run of the mill yes yes let’s go
i don’t feel like making another category: the spouses of a head are also called a lord or lady. same thing
Children of a Head of a normal House:
Lordborn / Ladyborn
born of a lord. girl is lady born of a lord
MISC NOTES!!!!
knights are still Ser ofc
once a person is appointed to a role of importance, they themselves are obligated to the title of Lord or Lady. this doesn’t extend to their family members. in my mind, these roles are ones on the small council or a high steward. ofc if this person already has that title then they just keep it
instead of “my lord husband” (example), the royal family would refer to other royal family members as “my royal husband” or “my royal hand” if the hand of the king is another royal family member
if a highlady marries a man then the husband does not need to change his house / surname, but if a highlord marries a lady or ladyborn then she becomes “Lady [name] [house surname] of House [husband’s house]”
the daughters of a head can keep their lady title if they marry someone with no titles but they hold little power
widows of a head may also keep their title but them and their children hold little power after the passing of their lord
nieces and nephews don’t get titles unless they’re related to royalty
children born to a lady and a non-lord do not get titles
idk if this is canon but in my head all dornish bastards are legitimized if they are children of any royal family members
the introduction “of House [name]” is reserved for royalty, great houses, and the head of a normal house. everyone else who belongs to a lower house is just called “[first name] [house name]”
continued from above and similar to the informal address of a grand duke / duchess, royalty and nobles and such are still addressed without the “of House [name]” but only in informal settings or after being addressed with their full title
i probably said this, but titles of all house members change right as fellow members or lose titles (examples: if a head of house dies before their siblings the siblings return to their prior titles, often lordborn / ladyborn if they were also children of the previous head. same for widowed partners)

A Besotted Fool 1k by @sibyldisobedience
He scrubbed his hand down his face and found his attention drawn to the fluttering lace in one of the upper windows of the house. Suddenly there she was, his radiant girl; a soft, inscrutable expression gracing her lovely features. She nodded to him with a stately little dip of her chin, and he waved back at her, like some kind of overly eager green boy. He cringed inwardly and cursed himself for a fool. A pathetic, besotted fool.
Aunt Lysa Settles the Question 5k by @sibyldisobedience
"But tell me now child, and be quick about it, who is this young man and what reason does he have to be alone with you in the parlour?” Sansa bristled at being called ‘child’, she was seventeen and had just received her first proposal of marriage for goodness sake! She turned to Mr. Snow, the poor man looked as though he wished the floor might open up and swallow him whole. “This is Father’s friend, Mr. Jon Snow.” “Snow? What Snow? Do you mean that boy’s tutor?” Lysa looked Jon up and down, and grimaced. She then turned the full force of her ire on Sansa, who could only wring her hands. “And what pray tell has Father’s friend been saying to make you look like a peony?” Before Sansa could begin to think of what to say in reply, for it really wasn’t any of the old fussbudget’s business, Jon cleared his throat.
Married Life 10k by @sibyldisobedience
Sansa and Jon settled into married life very easily. The Dovecote was small, to be sure, less than a third of the size of Winterfell, but the lovers relished their proximity to one another. How wonderful it was to be so close — in constant contact — when during their three year engagement, they had been apart longer than they had been together. After one entire week of blissful seclusion, the couple had to concede that they could not live on love alone. So Jon returned to work, and some gentle ribbing from his co-workers, and Sansa took up her housewifely duties.  As the young couple established a routine, they found that even after a few months, once the initial novelty of “playing house” had worn off, they were just as blissfully happy as they had been that first week. Sansa was as breathtakingly lovely as ever in her faded wrapper, beaming at him from behind the familiar coffee pot. And Jon’s deep Northern brogue never failed to send shivers down her spine, even when he was simply following up his parting kiss with the tender inquiry, "Shall I send home mutton or beef for dinner tonight?"
(the above are all in the 14 part series Little Women of Winterfell)
marriage is an economic proposition 3k
Sansa meets her childhood friend Jon Targaryen while traveling with Aunt Lysa in the capital.

recently this post circled back into my notifications
& it struck me with some inspiration. so i present to you... part 1 of what will likely have additional parts at some point! shout out to that original anon for asking the question & to whoever liked/reblogged and brought it back to my attention~!
The day he swears his oath to Sansa, their father pulls him aside.
From the side of the glittering room they watch the handsome knights and beautiful ladies mingle among one another in the Red Keep, celebrating the betrothal of their golden-haired prince and the beautiful Northern born girl, one of the happiest days King’s Landing has seen in the months of their king’s rule. “That is what you must protect,” Ned Stark says softly, gesturing towards the young redheaded girl, her golden gown swinging as Joffrey elegantly twirls her out and back in once more. She’s smiling, she’s radiant, she’s beautiful. “That smile, that happiness, that girl.” Ned forces his eyes from the sight that is his daughter, grown far too old to be that little girl that used to sit upon his knees. “Promise me, Jon, promise me that you will protect her with your life.” He cannot explain it, but there is a chill to his heart, a concern that far surpasses that of a father leaving his daughter for the first time. “Protect her, Jon… Promise me.” Somehow, in the depths of his mind, he hears Lyanna whispering the very same thing.
Jon turns back, just so he might spare his half sister one last glance… His heart fills with warmth, threatening to overflow. When he looks back to his father, twin gray eyes meet, and Jon nods, his single, solemn oath.
His vow he would never forget.
Six weeks later, their father is dead.
Jon wakes each and every morning with a heaviness in his heart- the anguish of this loss met with the blow of facing her at every turn. He knows it to be wrong, horrible even, but he cannot help but to blame Sansa for what’s happened. He cannot forget the sight of her over the last few weeks, with her hair twisted in braids to match the queen’s. Why even the very day of their father’s execution she had stood up there in her lovely silk gown, auburn hair braided back with gold thread, her hair an exact copy of Cersei’s. Even her dress, which once had reflected her Northern heritage, became more and more Southern with each passing day.
And so he cannot help to feel bitter, for while she’s become part of the royal family like she was born to it, he is an outsider. While he mourns deeply for the father they’ve lost, she smiles and waves from the balcony on Joffrey’s arm, as if it does not affect her in the slightest.
Worse yet…
There’s that rumor that it was her testimony, her words, that sent their father to the headsman.
And Jon truly cannot fathom forgiveness, no matter how loudly his father’s words echo in his mind… Protect her, Jon… Promise me… How could he protect her when she was a traitor? When she had sacrificed their beloved father for her own benefit… To integrate herself with the family she was to become a part of, as if they mattered at all, as if her own Stark name meant so very little to her.
His mind ceases it’s whirling as he approaches her door, coming as he does every morning, to fetch her down for the morning meal. When he knocks, it takes a moment longer than usual for her handmaiden to appear, opening the door with her usual curtsy. This time however, Sansa does not appear at her back, ready to go; instead, the handmaiden, Shae was her name, beckons for him to step inside, so he does, crossing the threshold and allowing the door to swing closed behind him. “My lady will be just a moment,” Shae says in her accented voice, dark eyes meeting Jon’s- for a moment it feels as if she wishes to say something more, but she turns and disappears through the door to Sansa’s bed chamber.
It takes but a few minutes before the door swings open and Sansa steps out, Shae on her heels. “Good morning,” she greets as he turns to face her, offering her usual smile, hands clasped before her. Jon notices at once there’s a paleness to her face that’s not been there before, her blue eyes tired in their gaze. She looks unwell, in truth, now that he looks a bit closer. The rose gown, the same once she wore the day of their father’s execution, hangs from her frame in places it once did not.
Gods, how had he missed it?
Shame floods him, hot and steady, his father’s voice ringing in his ears… Protect her…
He was not fit to be her guard, not fit to be her brother; in the weeks it’s been since they had lost their father, had lost Arya, he had forgotten what it had felt like to want to keep her safe. In his own grief, his own need to put things to understanding, he’s perhaps unfairly accused her of doing things she’s not even done. Not once has he stopped to think of how she felt in the aftermath of their father’s death. Not once has he stopped to think of what the world around them would say if she didn’t side with her husband to be in this situation. Not once has he stopped to think about what would happen to her if she didn’t go along with every single thing the Lannister’s did or said… He’s met Joffrey, after all, there was no disagreeing with him.
“Jon…” Her voice draws him back and he swallows, holding his head a little higher. “Are you alright?” She questions and he nods, offering her his arm as he always does, not inwardly flinching when she places her hand to his elbow. Her skin, which was once soft and warm, is now cold to the touch.
Another dagger to his aching heart.
They walk down to the main floor of the palace, to the great hall where they will dine with the rest of the court- there Joffrey waits for her, his knights hovering at his either side. “My lady,” he greets with a sickly sweet smile, his green eyes flashing dangerously in the torchlight. “You look beautiful this morning,” he continues, offering her his arm instead of Jon’s. She spares Jon just one last glance before she steps forward, taking Joffrey’s arm so they might walk through the double doors, leaving Jon there to hear his last words: “... A walk after the meal, my lady, it will do you good to have some fresh air…”
That night, he stands at the door to her room, concern flowing through his veins.
She had not attended the evening meal nor could he find her in any of her usual places, forcing him to check this one final place. He raises his hand to knock and after what feels like an eternity, the door creaks open just enough for him to see the brown eye peering through the crack. “My lady is indisposed,” Shae says without preamble, making way to close the door, but Jon slips his foot through the crack before she can. “My lady is abed,” she says, sharper now, in a tone which dares him to argue.
But before he can open his mouth to do so, he hears Sansa’s soft voice calling from within… “It’s alright Shae, let him in.” And though she looks as if she would rather do anything else, Shae sighs and steps back, pulling the door open and allowing Jon to step through.
He does not see her at first, but then catches sight of her, curled up into the window seat on the eastern wall. She wears her dressing robe, her long red hair falling down her back in soft waves, her feet tucked up beneath her. “Sansa…” He speaks her name the first time in what feels like an eternity- the title she holds no longer anything but family. She stiffens, but slowly does she turn to face him, her feet making their way back to the floor as she comes to fully face him.
And just like that, his world stops spinning.
The lips that curve around the syllable of his name are broken and bruised, proof of a fist that has connected with it. He’s rushing forward then, just as she’s rising up to her full height, his heart frenzied and his eyes widening. “Seven hells Sansa, what happened to you?” He nearly shouts and she flinches, the gesture filling him with even more rage. “Sansa, tell me what happened…” He encourages, softer now, watching as her battered lip quivers with her fight to keep from crying.
Instead of answering, she pushes past him, shaking her head. From where she stands across the room, Shae swallows against her own emotions; she alone knew what this girl suffered through and though she often begged her to tell someone, anyone else, her lady was unwilling, though it was fear that prevented her. But perhaps now, for the first time since her father’s death, she might open up to the one person who could protect her from the abuse. And so she ducks out of the room, quietly closing the door to her bedchamber behind her, giving them just a few minutes of privacy.
“Sansa…” He’s coaxing her quietly, his hand slowly reaching out as to not startle her. He turns her back around, that same hand moving upwards, cupping her chin so he might get a better look at the injury she’s suffered. Gently he swipes his thumb across it, across her plump lower lip, his chest tight and his heart skipping a beat. “Did Joffrey…”
At once she’s taking a step back, out of his grasp, shaking his head. “Not him,” she says softly, hauntingly, making him realize at once what she means. Not Joffrey, but rather one of his so-called knights- men twice her size, twice her strength. To think a man of any kind would put his hands upon a woman, let alone the woman he would someday call his queen.
Anger surges through him, white hot and rampant, unlike any feeling he’s ever felt before. It doesn’t matter if this was the first time, or even if it would be the only time. They would pay for putting their hands upon her in such a violent way. “I won’t let them get away with this,” he snarls, turning on his heel as if he means to storm from her room, as if he means to rush into these knights chambers and beat them relentlessly for what they’ve done. He would, for the first time in his life, allow his anger to get the best of him and he would do as he likely should have done weeks ago.
He would fight for her.
“Jon, stop!
Her cry forces him to hesitate, his back to her, his eyes on the door. “Please, don’t go,” she says, reaching for his hand in a way she’s never done before, turning him back to face her. Her blue eyes, tired as they are, are haunting in their gaze. Those were eyes that have seen far more than anyone ever should have- he wonders what else she’s not telling him. What else has those eyes seen that his have not? “Please, you mustn’t feud with them.” She speaks quickly, quietly, her hands still holding fast to his. “I know you don’t care for me…” Her words are softer now and a single tear streaks her ivory cheek. “But you are my brother and I couldn’t bear it if anything happened to you.”
I know you don’t care for me… Her words hit him harder than perhaps even the sight of her injury did. Once more, like earlier in the day, he’s filled with shame. With regret. “I care for you a great deal, Sansa,” he says without hesitation, speaking the truth that sits deep within his heart. “Losing father… It’s changed me…” She bows her head and at once he sees the guilt that fills her eyes- she blamed herself, just as he had blamed her too. “I haven’t been there for you as I should have been…” He goes on, his words forcing her gaze back up to meet his. “And I’m sorry for that. I should have been there… I should have been there to protect you from this.”
Whatever words she thinks she might say disappear there on the tip of her tongue as the tears overflow and trail the curve of her cheeks. Jon is there then, catching each one with his fingertips, leaning in, the closest he’s ever been before, pulling her into an embrace as they’ve never shared before.
And a short while later, when Shae dips her head out of the bedchamber, to ensure her lady is well, she finds her smiling as she’s not done in several weeks, settled into place beside her brother, seemingly happy.
It was all she could ask for, at least for now.
